When I was ten years old I joined the church and was baptized, but
I was not saved. When I was twenty-four years old, a revival was going
on at Westport and I went. It seemed the preacher talked only to me. I
was under conviction so bad and had been for a long time. When the preacher
stopped preaching I was at the altar. I don't know what songs were sung
or who prayed. I was praying and it was just me and the Lord. Then I could
not pray any more. A peace came into me. When I started to get up my whole
body was happy. I shouted. That sweet peace is still with me. Thank God
for saving me. (Brother L. H. Brown was the pastor at Westport Baptist
Church at that time.)
Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our
sorrows: yet we did esteem him straicken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities:
the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are
healed. [Isaiah 53:4-5]
Myrtle was a dedicated Christian lady who esteemed
her Lord and her Church. She went to be with her Lord on November 17, 2006,
and she will be missed by her brothers and sisters at H.M.B.C.
