James Keen was born and raised in Brownsburg, a suburb of Indianapolis, Indiana. Although raised in church all his life, he didn't come to know the Lord personally until the summer following his freshman year in college. Shortly after that, the Lord brought Mary into his life.
James was called to the ministry during his senior year of college. After graduating from Purdue University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, he and Mary were married in July 1998.
A couple of years later, they were called to serve as missionaries in Alaska. They initially helped a young mission work in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. In 2002, they began a Bible study in Anchorage, which became a mission work and eventually was organized into The Anchor Missionary Baptist Church.
During their time in Alaska, they were blessed with four children: Grace, Josiah, Micah and Anna. In 2021 Grace was tragically taken in an automobile accident.
Mary has a degree in pharmacy but chose to home school her children. Josiah will soon start his second year of college with his eye on a degree in medicine. Micah and Anna are avid swimmers and currently hold impressive scores for their performance. All of the children are talented muscians and play several instruments.
James served as pastor at The Anchor until April 2022, when he and his family moved to Huntingdon, Tennessee to begin his pastorate at HMBC.
James is an author and a taleted musician as well as a dedicated and devoted minister of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. His book "Shooting for the Mark" is an excellent resource on the subject of parenting.
