 My Testimony

I attended a Wednesday night prayer meeting at Humphries School in Crockett County with some of my classmates. I realized I was lost and I went to the mourner's bench. I tried to pray and finally my burden was gone and everything looked different. I no longer felt like praying for myself, but I remember wanting to pray for a girl I was seeing. My family didn't go to church, so I didn't go either. I was twenty-two before I joined Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Buena Vista, Tennessee, and was baptized. I entered the military service and fought in World War II in South Africa. We had to sleep on the ground and I got pneumonia and was discharged. The influence of the military and the war caused me to stray from the Lord. When I returned home, I lived near Westport Baptist Church and felt that I needed to return to the Lord. Being under a heavy conviction because of the life I had led, I asked Westport Church to forgive me. Since that time, I have tried to serve the Lord to the best of my ability. I met Evie Ellis Hall at Westport and we were married. We have been together in God's service ever since.

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake."
[Psalm 23:1-3]

Max was a Deacon of Huntingdon M. B. Church and he and his wife Evie were devoted members for many years. Max went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2006. He will be missed.
